FAQ

The product

  • What's included in the set?

Each set includes 12 lacquered wooden discs (6 striped, 6 plain), 1 small branded Capybara disc (the Tejin / target), and a metal carry handle that stacks all discs together for easy transport. No extra equipment needed — just find a patch of sand.

  • Is the wood waterproof?

The discs are lacquered for water and sand resistance, making them ideal for beach and outdoor use. We recommend drying them off after use and storing indoors to extend their life.

  • Is it suitable for kids?

Yes — Tejo is a game for all ages. The discs are smooth and safe to handle. We recommend adult supervision for children under 5.

How to play

  • What is Tejo?

Tejo is an outdoor disc game combining fun, accuracy and strategy. The goal is simple: get your tejos (big discs) closer to the tejin (small target disc) than the other team. First team to 15 points wins.

  • How many players do you need?

Tejo works for 2, 3 or 4 players. The standard format is 2 vs 2 (3 discs per player). You can also play 1 vs 1 (4 discs each) or 3 vs 3 (2 discs each).

  • How do you set up the court?

Draw a rectangle in the sand about 10m long x 4m wide, divided in half by a central line. Players throw from behind their back line into the opposite half. No gear needed — just use your foot to draw the lines.

  • How does a round work?

Flip a coin/play a round of rock paper scissor to decide who goes first. The starting team throws the tejin (target / small disc), then one tejo (big disc). The opposing team then throws until they get closer. When the lead changes, the other team stops and the trailing team resumes. Keep going until all tejos are thrown, then count the score. The round winning team opens the next round.

  • How does scoring work?

The team with the closest tejo wins the round and scores 1 point for each of their tejos that is closer to the tejin than any of the opponent's - Max 6 points per round, min 1.

Only one team scores per round. If the tejin goes out of bounds at the start:

1 point to the other team, round over.

If a tejo knocks the tejin out of the court: 2 points to the other team, round over.

  • What are the no-go's?

Stepping over the back line is an invalid throw. Tejos landing outside the court don't count. You can't touch the tejin or any tejo once it's been thrown.

Pro tip — what's the metal handle for?

Not sure which team is closer? Use the metal carry handle as a measuring tool to settle disputes. It's part of the game.

The name? A capybara is one of the world's most social animals — curious, calm, and always surrounded by others. That felt right for a brand built around bringing people together outdoors.

We chose "Capybara" over the Spanish name (carpincho) because, let's be honest, it's much easier to say at a BBQ. And that's exactly the vibe we're going for — easy, fun, and made for everyone.

Right now we make Tejos. But we're just getting started — more games are on the way. The goal is simple: build the kind of outdoor games that get passed down, not thrown out.

Thanks for being here. Now go find a patch of sand.
